Parameters

Parameters can be connected to columns in a data table enabling the enduser to filter the data in the dashboard. Parameters are connected to a data source, and hence can be used in data tables that use this source. It is possible to create a parameter independent of a source; this is placed under the “Common” data source.

Properties

There are several types of parameters: Data source lists, Static lists and Period lists. A parameter is normally displayed as a list, but can also be displayed as a tree structure. Select “Hierarchic” if you want this option. This also has several settings. Refer to separate section on hierarchic lists.
In addition, you can select if the lists are to include the selection “All”. If the end user selects ”All”, this means that all data from the column will be retrieved (without filtering).

Data source list

Data table
Select the data table from which the parameter is to retrieve its selections.

Column name value
State the column that includes the values that the parameter selection is to use.

Column name text
State the column that includes the name that the parameter selection is to use, and how the list with the parameter selection is to be sorted.

As a hierarchical list

Composite key: If you wish the tree structure to include several dimensions, e.g. both organisation units and individuals, you must use a composite key. This key includes the values from both dimensions, separated by “_” or “#”. For example if you choose “_”, the value must be formatted as 1_2 (org. ID_individual ID).

If you choose to use a composite key, you can also state the “Node type”; this will display an icon in the tree structure that illustrates the node in the tree.

In addition, one must state to what the parameter selections should be connected (“the parent”).

Connected to each column name: The columns to which the parameter selections are connected.

Node type column name: Columns that include a grouping name. This is the name that the end user sees.

Static list

A static list does not retrieve names and values from the database, but includes key values that can be used to filter the data in a column.

Title
The title that is displayed in the parameter list.

Value
The value that is connected to the selection. Remember that one can also use a Business Analyze Scripting Engine expression to insert dynamic values. Refer to this specific chapter on Business Analyze Scripting Engine.

In addition, one must indicate how the parameter selections are to be grouped. The table with static values is expanded with two columns.

Connected values: State the value to which the parameter selection belongs (should be grouped under).

Period list

Parameters use Business Analyze period definitions. You can determine for yourself which periods you wish to include in the parameter. Drag and drop the period elements in the list to change the order within the parameter list.

You can also select the option that enables the end user to choose the dates (from and to) from a calendar, in addition to the fixed time period selections.

Value token

You can also connect a self-defined selection, called a “Value token”, to all parameters that you create. These will be inserted into the list or the tree structure and will function as a regular parameter selection.

Title
The title that is displayed in the parameter list.

Value
The value that is connected to the selection. Remember that one can also use a Business Scripting Engine expression to insert dynamic values. Refer to this specific chapter on Business Analyze Scripting Engine.

Position
Placement of the value token in the list.

You can preview the values in the parameter list here, and ensure that they function as expected.
